Pixlr Assignments

Go to Pixlr.com - create an account and then select Pixlr-E

All original works as well as your recreations need to be placed into a Keynote presentation to be shared in class. All assignments are worth 25 points. The total assignment is worth is 100 points.

TIP! If you want to keep a document then click the heart icon to pin it. History is only saved temporarily in the browser cache, all documents will be deleted if you clear the browser cache or history.

Assignment 1

Crop an image

Find an image at the bottom of this page - copy it and then go to Pixlr, select Create New and paste the image Or, Drag an image from one browser into Pixlr and select Create New. Or Download a graphic from the Internet by right clicking on the graphic and selecting "Save Image As" > save it in your home drive.
Click on the Home icon in Pixlr-E
Hover over the image until you see the 3 dots
Click on the 3 dots and choose Duplicate
Select the image to open
Select the Crop tool - draw a box around the area that you want to keep, click Apply
Go to File > Save, give it a name and select JPG as the file type, High quality and download the image - do this for both images
Create a new Keynote presentation
Put your name, date, period along with a title on the first slide
Create a New Slide, title it Crop, and add both the original photo and the cropped photo
Adjust the size and add borders, animations if you wish
Be sure to title the presentation in Keynote to "yourlastname_pixlr" like this GarretsonPixlr

Assignment 2

Colorize an Image

Select an Ansel Adams photo, copy it and then go to Pixlr, select Create New and paste the image Or, Drag an image from one browser into Pixlr and select Create New. Or Download a graphic from the Internet by right clicking on the graphic and selecting "Save Image As" > save it in your home drive.
Click on the Home icon in Pixlr-E
Hover over the image until you see the 3 dots
Click on the 3 dots and choose Duplicate
Select the image to open
Use one of the selection tools to select a portion to be colored.
Go to "Adjustment -> Hue & Saturation"
Check the Colorize box
Adjust colors to your preference. Select Apply when finished
Go to File > Save, give it a name and select JPG as the file type, High quality and download the image - do this for both images
Insert both the original file as well as the colorized file into your Keynote Presentation.

Find an image at the bottom of this page - copy it and then go to Pixlr, select Create New and paste the image Or, Drag an image from one browser into Pixlr and select Create New. Or Download a graphic from the Internet by right clicking on the graphic and selecting "Save Image As" > save it in your home drive.
Click on the Home icon in Pixlr-E
Hover over the image until you see the 3 dots
Click on the 3 dots and choose Duplicate
Select the image to open
Use filters to digitally transform the art
Go to File > Save, give it a name and select JPG as the file type, High quality and download the image - do this for both images
Insert both the original file as well as the filtered file into your Keynote presentation.

Assignment 4

Recreate Famous Artwork

Find an image at the bottom of this page - copy it and then go to Pixlr, select Create New and paste the image Or, Drag an image from one browser into Pixlr and select Create New. Or Download a graphic from the Internet by right clicking on the graphic and selecting "Save Image As" > save it in your home drive.
The image will now open in a new window. Look in the lower left hand corner to see the size of the image, for example it might be 560 x 797 px @ 100%
Click on the Home button and then Create New
Enter the width and Height that you would like, such as 560 x 797
Make sure that the Background slider is in the off position
You will now have two tabs open. You can switch between them to see your drawing and the original
In your drawing, go to Layer in the Menu bar and select New Layer. Do this each time you add something to your drawing.
In the Tools on the left hand side choose the Picker Tool and go to the original art and click to select the exact color that you want to use.
Use the tools to create your art, Pen, Draw, Eraser etc. to complete your artwork.
Remember to select New Layer each time prior to adding to your art. You can then erase or delete the layer without deleting anything else in your project.
Insert both the original file as well as the filtered file into your Keynote presentation.
Insert both the original file as well as the recreated file into your Keynote presentation by going to Insert > Choose and then navigating to your files
